Our exceptional childcare professionals want your child to succeed in their first year of kindergarten. That's why Sunrise Sunset Preschool & Childcare Center structures activities and playtime in a way that will prepare them for the big jump.
Make the Last Step Before Kindergarten Count
Children in the Big Bird Room enter a busy, fun-filled preschool experience. Our primary focus is preparing the children for entering Kindergarten.
This is the class that next year will be going to kindergarten. Fun art projects are always planned and children are encouraged to take part in group activities.
Preschool is Monday - Friday 9:00 am -11:00 am. Preschool classes are designed so that your child learns, grows, and develops with the children that he / she will be going to Kindergarten with.
Our goals for your child before leaving the Big Bird Class will be that he / she can count 1-100 forwards and backwards by 5’s,10’s,20’s, know his / her alphabet, know some sight words, knows his / her address, phone number, mom and dad’s first and last name, and can spell and recognize all of the primary and secondary colors . We also start introducing Spanish, more sign language, identifying upper and lower case as well as punctuation. We also do a weekly show-n-tell that correlates with the weekly theme of preschool. Here at Sunrise-Sunset, we strive to get your child to the top of their kindergarten class to give them the most benefit out of their academic years.
Your child’s teacher will prepare evaluations twice a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, regarding the development of your child. The teacher also schedules a conference with the parents / guardians to address any issues or questions. This is a great way for parents to see how their child is developing socially, cognitively, and emotionally as well as get to know the teacher and ask any questions.
We make sure that learning is fun everyday by adding in special occasions such as dressing up in formal wear for the Valentine’s Day Dance, trying to catch the Leprechauns, hopping down the bunny trail with the Easter Bunny, participating in an end of the year graduation ceremony, dressing in costumes for a Halloween costume parade, and singing our hearts out for Santa Claus.
Big Birds work hard but have lots of fun while readying his / her selves to begin their successful school life!
In the summer, the center becomes a camp more than a daycare for the children. The summer months have themed weeks such as space, science, animal, western, dinosaur, circus, water and more. During these weeks, we discover what items and trips are involved with the week.
We go outside as much as possible. The children that are three and older walk to all the surrounding parks to utilize those playgrounds, grass areas, and the other amenities of the park. The children that are younger than three go on short walks outside and play on the center’s playground daily.
