Oscar Room for Ages 3 - 4 Years

Developing the "whole child" is another strong belief of Sunrise-Sunset Preschool & Childcare and we focus on all developmental skills including: socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

Children discover their individuality here in the Oscar Room. Children learn by hands-on experiences, learning creatively, and learning though play and social interactions are the best way to achieve successful four year olds.

Preschool is Monday - Friday 9:00 am -11:00 am. Preschool classes are designed so that your child learns, grows, and develops with the children that he / she will be going to Kindergarten with.

Preschool in the Oscar Room consists of working on the calendar, what the weather is outside, the idea of yesterday-today-tomorrow, math, hand writing, spelling and writing our names, counting 1-50, getting ourselves dressed, as well as continuing to work on our fine motor and gross motor skills. Weekly show and tell coordinates with the weekly preschool theme. We make sure that learning is fun everyday by adding in special occasions such as dressing up in formal wear for the Valentine’s Day Dance, trying to catch the Leprechauns, hopping down the bunny trail with the Easter Bunny, participating in an end of the year graduation ceremony, dressing in costumes for a Halloween Costume Parade, and singing our hearts out for Santa Claus.

Your child’s teacher will prepare evaluations twice a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, regarding the development of your child. The teacher also schedules a conference with the parents / guardians to address any issues or questions. This is a great way for parents to see how their child is developing socially, cognitively, and emotionally as well as get to know the teacher and ask any questions.

During the afternoon, children in this group may move and be with children that are older or younger. Doing this allows the children to socialize and play with the older children and show the younger children good behavior. During the daycare hours, we work on constructed free play both inside and outside in order to work on sharing and playing nice with others.

In the summer, the center becomes a camp more than a daycare for the children. The summer months have themed weeks such as space, science, animal, western, dinosaur, circus, water and more. During these weeks, we discover what items and trips are involved with the week.

We go outside as much as possible. The children that are three and older walk to all the surrounding parks to utilize those playgrounds, grass areas, and the other amenities of the park. The children that are younger than three go on short walks outside and play on the center’s playground daily.
